I am a Computer Science academic at Surrey University (perviously Solent
University) and a part time, freelance web and mobile developer based in Brighton.
Over the last 10 years, I have been lucky enough to work on some amazing
projects and have shared my passion for technology with hundreds of
students.
I enjoy creatively using technology to solve problems. In doing
so, I have become an accomplished programmer, designer, and project manager. My skills
lie in understanding and defining business or research-based problems and using my
design and development skills to solve them.
I am particularly interested in
projects that support effective learning, promote social justice and equality, or
experiment with cutting-edge technologies (e.g., AI, Technology Enhanced Learning). If
you've got a project idea like this, I will heavily discount my
prices!
From a technology perspective, my tools of choice are NextJS,
PostgreSQL deployed to a serverless infrastructure. For mobile applications, I use Rect
Native.
I build all my projects modularly with testing and maintainability
in mind; furthermore, through years of teaching university students, I am an excellent
communicator and ensure my solutions are well-documented and understandable. Overall,
this results in my work being easy to maintain and can be worked on and extended by
third-party developers.
Away from work, I am a mediocre runner, a windsurfer,
and a father. Time allowing - which it rarely does these days - I enjoy reading and
watching films. I am also a fan of mixed martial arts and aspirational Brazilian
jujitsu (BJJ) practitioner; I say aspirational, as I have not had the time to start
training yet!
